He also serves as general delegate of the Community of Ariane Cities (CVA), a non-profit association of cities and industries involved in the Ariane launcher programme.

Juan graduated in mechanical engineering in 1981 at the Technical University of Catalonia, Spain, and followed with master courses in business administration at the Philadelphia College of Textile and Science, USA. He is also an alumnus of the International Space University (ISU) 1989 Summer Session.

Juan started in 1983 as exports sales engineer. He has since cumulated working experience in Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Ecuador, France, Germany, Israel, Uruguay and the USA. He entered the space sector in 1985 and has worked for ESA, the French Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) and ISU in personnel management, project and programme management, finance, strategy, international relations and communication. Juan has cumulated ten years of residence at Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, where he was the first non-French Range Operations Director (DDO), in charge of Ariane-4 launch campaigns.  In Kourou, he also worked as ground facilities engineer for the construction and qualification of the Ariane-5 manufacturing, integration and launch facilities.

Following his graduation from the ISU Summer Session (SSP) in 1989 in Strasbourg, thanks to generous support from ESA and CNES, Juan became a visiting lecturer and, in 1991, he initiated the involvement of the Barcelona Universities, who eventually became the host of the 1994 Summer Session as well as an Affiliate Campus to ISU. He has served as director of the ISU Summer Session Program from 2002 to 2005, on secondment from ESA. Juan is a member of the ISU Faculty and, since January 2009, Chairman of the Academic Council.

Albert Ramírez – EADS/EUROCOPTER

Albert graduated in 2004 in Telecommunications Engineering, with a specialization in telecommunications Systems, at EPSC-UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya). His final year project, which he performed with mention, concerned the “Design of an A320 simulation cockpit”, and definitely led the way to his professional life. Freshly graduated, he joined EADS-CASA through its Division Airbus, to work as a MIDS Avionics System Engineer for Military Transport Aircrafts (A400M and A330 MRTT). He acknowledges that his experience as a pilot (he has an Airplane Private Pilot License) was key in this role for a better understanding of the users’ requirements.

Two years later, he seized the opportunity of internal mobility within the EADS Group and joined the helicopter Division, Eurocopter. There, he assumed the position of NH90 Avionics Architecture Responsible for the Spanish version of the aircraft, with the international team coordination of the three Eurocopter sites based in France, Germany and Spain.

Curious and tenacious, Albert has never stopped learning and studying since he began to work. He performed a “Master in Economics and Innovation Project Management” at the ETSII-UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and numerous courses, which helped him to acquire new competencies and evolve in the international and multidisciplinary environment of Eurocopter.

Strong team player and international oriented, Albert has a young but intense career. His mission at Eurocopter has led him to reside in several European countries.
